Im 20; and Ive refused sex to every girlfriend I've ever had that wanted it because I didnt love them enough?

I am 20 years old; and still a virgin. It's by choice; I've had many girlfriends and many girlfriends that wanted to have sex with me; but I never allowed it. Told them I wasn't ready and soon after left them because I didn't love them. Furthermore I didnt want to be a mistake of theirs later that they'd regret when if it didnt work out which in those cases it didnt work out. I am engaged now; she's not a virgin and I know I will have sex with her. My question is; Is it wierd that Ive held out this long? I've always wanted that real connection with the first women I slept with and I have that now. But when I tell people Im still a virgin they look at me with "wide eyes" wondering how that could be. Just curious to if this is an oddity for most men. thankyou
