Is it bad that I think making out is boring? am I doing something wrong?

This guy and I, while we are not dating and don't have feelings for each other, have made out a few times. We have sexual chemistry, and I always get really excited whenever I think about hooking up with him. And while we're hooking up, he also gets really into it, sighing and getting an erection and everything. But, it's pretty sloppy and I don't see what's so hot about sticking my tongue in someone else's mouth. What can I do to make it more interesting?
