Oral surgery tomorrow! help only ten!?

Tomorrow I have a surgery to get and extra tooth out. They say I will have stitches. And I have to get an iv. Does it hurt??? Please help. My dentist said it will only hurt afterwards like burning your mouth on hot pizza or soup,, is that true?
